BURYING THE HUNLEY’S CREW



Organizers plan six days of events, starting Monday and concluding with Saturday’s burial of the submarine’s final crew. Some highlights include:

Monday, Tuesday

6-10 p.m. — Bodies lie in state at Patriot’s Point Naval Museum, Mount Pleasant

Wednesday

9 a.m.-5 p.m. — Bodies lie in state, John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway

10 a.m. — Presentation on the Hunley, Charleston Museum

2-5 p.m. — Living history presentation on artillery, including cannon firing and discussion, Patriot’s Point

Thursday

9 a.m.-5 p.m.— Bodies lie in state. Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Charleston, 120 Broad St.

1-2 p.m. — Lecture and fashion show on mourning, Charleston Museum

7 p.m. — Memorial service, Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 120 Broad St.

Friday

9 a.m.-5 p.m. — Bodies lie in state; Church of the Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Ave.

7 p.m. — Hunley Lantern Tour, Patriot’s Point; tickets are $25 a person

Saturday

8 a.m. — Staging for funeral begins at White Point Gardens at the Battery

9:15 a.m. — Memorial service at the Battery

10:30 a.m. — Funeral procession departs.

12:15 p.m. — Procession arrives at Magnolia Cemetery.

1:30 p.m. — Funeral begins.

2:30 p.m. — Interment

8 p.m. — Grand ball, McAllister Field House, The Citadel; tickets are $80 a couple or $50 a person.
