DNR schedules youth fishing events around the state
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host a series of youth fishing events (rodeos) around the state during the months of May and June. Accompanied by an adult, all youth can enjoy a day of fishing. Participants are encouraged to bring their own cane poles or rods. Bait is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Fishing rodeos are a unique opportunity for families to come together. Register for a fishing rodeo near you.
- May 12 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Jimmy Shay Memorial Fishing Rodeo at Lick Fork Lake (Edgefield Co.)
- May 19 – 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Foster Park Lake Fishing Rodeo (Union Co.)
- May 19 – 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Darlington County - 2852 Anglers Ave. Hartsville
- June 2 – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Cohen Campbell Fish Hatchery (West Columbia)
DNR continues to support Aquatic Education programs such as Fishing Rodeos, Family Fishing Clinics, Youth Bass Fishing League and more. Family Fishing Clinics will teach skills on how to tie fishing knots, how to rig a rod and reel, casting and the best part is everyone will get to try their hand at fishing. Fishing Rodeos events are designed to provide youth with opportunities to catch fish. Come out and visit a fishing rodeo near you. Students can establish school bass fishing clubs to compete for prizes, scholarships and more on a club, state and national level.
