The South Carolina
Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday challenging
whether Governor Mark Sanford (website/news) can remain in office and continue to
hold his U.S
Air Force Reserve commission
The
case centers on whether the state Constitution allows a
governor to hold a Reserve commission
Sanford's lawyers
say the case should be dismissed, because Edward
Sloan Junior doesn't have legal standing to pursue the lawsuit
because he lacks personal involvement with the
issues
Sloan's lawyers counter that the retired
Greenville construction company owner's lawsuit should go
forward because the issue of a governor serving in a branch of
the U-S military affects every state
citizen
