An officer with the Perry Correctional Institution has been charged with distributing marijuana to inmates over a two-year period, according to SLED warrants.

Leon Rhodes, 27, of 300 Rick Court in Pelzer, was arrested and charged Wednesday with possessing more than 28 grams of marijuana, conspiring to distribute marijuana and distributing marijuana to inmates, according to the warrants.

The warrants allege that he began distributing marijuana to inmates in November 2004.

Rhodes also has been charged with providing an inmate with a cell phone, which is designated as contraband by the South Carolina Department of Corrections, a warrant said.

SLED and the SCDC conducted a joint investigation, according to a SLED press release.

Rhodes is being held at the Greenville County Detention Center on a $3,000 bond.
