(Columbia-AP) Jan. 29, 2003 - Governor Mark
Sanford is happy with President Bush's proposal
to stimulate the economy. Sanford says what Bush
proposed for the nation is what should happen in
South Carolina, as well.
The Republican governor says the best way to
improve the economy is to invest in the economy,
not more government.
Bush proposed immediate tax cuts already
approved by Congress to spur the economic growth
by giving people more money and improving the
bottom line for small businesses. Sanford says
it's important that South Carolina not raise
taxes as Congress is cutting taxes.
Senator Lindsey Graham also praised Bush's
economic proposals. The new Republican Senator
says it's important to reform the Social
Security system. Third District Congressman
Gresham Barrett also praised Bush's address.
Republican Congressman Joe Wilson of West
Columbia said he supports Bush's decision for
Iraq to disarm or face military force.
Democratic Congressman Jim Clyburn, however,
says he will wait for a full report from
Secretary of State Colin Powell next month
before making up his mind.
