Beryl not likely to affect S.C.

STORM WATCH

The second tropical storm of the season formed Tuesday about 350 miles east of Myrtle Beach, posing more of a threat to North Carolina’s Outer Banks than to the Grand Strand.

The National Hurricane Center expects the center of Tropical Storm Beryl to stay over the Atlantic and pass just east of Cape Hatteras, N.C., on Thursday. It could make for treacherous surf and rain along the Outer Banks the next few days.

As for South Carolina, forecasters don’t expect Beryl to bring any rain to the Midlands or cause problems along the coast.

This season has been less active so far than the record-breaking 2005 season. By July 20 last year, three hurricanes and two tropical storms had formed in the Atlantic and Caribbean.
