Governor Mark sanford believes lowering the state income tax will boost South Carolina's economy. The governor says it will put more money in taxpayers pockets.. and help small business owners. But some opponents say it's a political move by the governor.

It is an issue that is still in debate....business owners differ on their opinions....some say they welcome the tax cut...... while others are not sure if the tax cut would increase their business.

More money....it's something everybody can use.....especially small business owners like Harrison Edelson........

Edelson says, "money in peoples pocket is money that they spend and people are good about spending money in their pocket and that is what keeps the economy going."

Business may soon be getting better for Edelson....Governor Mark Sanford wants to lower the state income tax....a move the governor says will directly help small business owners like Edelson......Edelson says any cut would help.

He says, "I will be able to keep more money in my business and be able to give my people raises and pass it on to them so I will not have to increase my prices..."

Cutting taxes is still a debate and for other small business owners.....they question if the governor's proposal would really help.

Vince Liviola with Gelateria says, "it is hard to say...I guess the logic is it is more money in people's pockets to spend they will spend it I don't know we will have to see..."

Marcello Garafallo with Gelateria says, "is not always about how much money they have in their pocket sometimes people don't have a dime but they are still going to go out and do things..they find a way so as a small business owner you can just only hope they will come out more and support you business.

The governor's tax plan would decrease the state income tax by nearly a third over ten years.
