COLUMBIA — Trane, a division of American Standard Companies, announced on Wednesday the location of a $30 million facility for the manufacture of air conditioning components in Blythewood. Trane will occupy the former AMBAC plant, a 183-acre site on Killian Road off I-77. The plant should be operational by May 2003.

Trane plans to fill as many as 100 jobs initially and up to 400 jobs within five years. The facility includes more than 300,000 square-feet of manufacturing and office space for the comfort systems and building management controls leader.

The move to the Midlands is a result of a production consolidation that will enable Trane to improve and standardize designs and manufacturing processes for its air conditioning components.

Trane is a business of American Standard, a global manufacturer with market leading positions in three businesses: air conditioning systems and service, sold under the Trane and American Standard brands for commercial, institutional and residential buildings.

The company employs approximately 60,000 people and has manufacturing operations in 27 countries.
