I must admit, I don't always agree with your decisions but I have always been able to understand the reasoning. To quickly introduce myself, I am Tamala White and I have recently resigned from the McCormick County Planning Commission. I had been a member of the commission for more than 13 years and the last several years as the chair. I am not the type of person who gives up easily, but due to an absolute lack of faith in our County Council and the employees they have hired, I just couldn't be a part of the madness (which I fought hard against), I had to throw in the towel. The reason for my email to to discuss the possibility of our County Council elections being non-partisan. I assume that this would be something that County Council would actually have to vote on and I know it will be an up hill battle, as I have posed the question to the Savannah Lakes Village representative, Byron Thompson and his immediate off the cuff answer was "that ain't happening", I asked him what the disadvantage would be and he really couldn't give me any. The reason for wanting the change is the fact that there are a lot of us who would like to serve in local government, but can't due to the fact that we work in some branch of government and that will not allow us to run for a partisan office. I work for the Post Office, but have 15 years of experience as a paralegal with my main focus being in real estate and all 15 years being here in McCormick. There is another gentleman that was interested in running against Chairman Jennings and its the same for him, he works for the State. I had never really given it a whole lot of thought, but with the limited amount of jobs here in McCormick, there is a large portion of working adults that are employed by agencies that don't allow their employees to run in partisan races. I know that you can not change this, however, if you could support something like this, it may help pressure the County Council to move to make the change. They are certainly not going to want to because it will open up the field of eligible candidates. I have been told time and again "they can't be beat" but how will we know if we can't try, or at least raise the issues that need to be addressed. I thank you so very much for your time, Sincerely, Tamala J. White
