In response, officials with the new Cooper
River Bridge have delayed starting new projects and are
focusing now completing work already underway. Crews are also
securing loose machinery and plan on lowering some tower
cranes Friday night. In addition, hurricane tie downs were
added to hold incomplete roads in place during hurricane force
winds.
The Emergency
Operations Center in North Charleston is now operating at
OPCON 4-the first stage in an advance warning system.
Officials will decide Thursday if the Center will be activated
for the first time since Hurricane Floyd. Once activated, the
EOC becomes a hub for emergency, law enforcement and medical
personnel.
