Sanford says House Members Acted Recklessly
(Columbia-AP) -- Governor Mark Sanford says House members acted recklessly when they took only two hours to override all but one of his 106 state budget vetoes Wednesday.

The House overrode the vetoes with little or no debate.

Sanford said he questioned whether it was election-year politics driving lawmakers to rely too much on one-time money or funds that may not materialize.

Sanford says his administration took a lot of care when considering the vetoes.

House Speaker David Wilkins and House Ways and Means Chairman Bobby Harrell both Republicans defended their version of the budget against the governor's vetoes.

Sanford's vetoes included changes in how the state might spend $90 million expected from tougher tax law enforcement. He cut about $21 million of that out of the spending plan.

Harrell says the one-time money was needed to help agencies ease into possible cuts next year.
