The Taste Raises $13,500
Pawleys Island, SC – The Pawleys Island-Litchfield Business Association and the Taste of the Tidelands Committee recently announced that $13,500.00 in proceeds were raised during the 8th Annual Taste of the Tidelands held November 7, 2001 at Pawleys Plantation Conference Center.
The proceeds have been distributed as follows:
1. $7,000 to the Ernst Royal Scholarship Fund at CIA of Hyde Park,
New York
2. $3,000 to the New York Uniformed Firefighters Fund for Widow’s and
Children
3. $2,000 to the Tara Hall for Boys of Georgetown, SC
4. $500 to the Pawleys Island-Litchfield Rescue Squad
5. $500 to the Waccamaw Elementary School of Nurses Fund
“ Not only is The Taste an extraordinary culinary event where locals can enjoy the wonderful fare known to our area,” said Chairman Peter Ryan, “but, in its history, The Taste has raised approximately $56,000 in culinary scholarships for the education of aspiring South Carolinian chefs and approximately $40,000 for a variety of local charities.”
The Taste of the Tidelands was started in 1994 and was the brain-child of Chef Peter Ryan of Restaurant Solutions. The Taste is a local volunteer committee representing the Pawleys Island-Litchfield Business Association. The Committee’s fine food related goals are as follows:
1. Encourage Creativity in the culinary arts.
2. Showcase fine dining in Georgetown and Horry Counties.
3. Promote tourism through the restaurant industry.
4. Generate a scholarship fund for South Carolinians pursuing culinary
arts.
5. Generate funds for local charities.
