Victory
reverses the flow of candidates’ $$ support

Things
do change, particularly in politics. As Democrats got down to
the wire hustling for votes in today’s primary in South
Carolina, nothing could be more representative of the way
things are than campaign money. As frontrunner, up until
recent times, Howard Dean was raking in contributions by the
millions. Sen. John Kerry, on the other hand, wasn’t doing
much. But, a funny thing happened on the way to the Democratic
nomination for president. All of a sudden, things did indeed
change ….. at least for Dean and Kerry. Since Kerry won (or
did Dean lose?), the vote in the Iowa caucuses and the New
Hampshire primary, Kerry is now attracting the big bucks and
Dean is forced to cut back on staff and
spending.
AS THE LATE GENERAL George
Patton said, or maybe it was George C. Scott, Americans love a
winner, but will not tolerate a loser. That message seems
clear today. Surely it’s not lost on the rest. But, wait.
Sen. John Edwards represents North Carolina in the U. S.
Senate. However, he was born in South Carolina, and his
supporters believe that will translate into a victory for
Edwards in the primary today. Stay tuned. That money thing
just might change again, and the attrition rate could go up
one more time. Somebody must be sweatin’ about now, and it’s
not likely to be Kerry or Edwards. In fact, there’s a lot of
speculation that Democrats will choose a Kerry-Edwards ticket
to run against President Bush. They could do a lot worse.
