I applied, provided all documentation as requested and was denied help through the SC Helps program. Until this time I have never received public assistance in my life. Below is the hardship appeal letter I sent today asking for reconsideration. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. My mortgage was sold to Seterus who according to their website does participate however they have a horrible reputation as a fraudulent company. (Please google them) September 30,2015 To whom it may concern: My name is Vernon E Birt Jr. I was informed today by Gary James that my application to the South Carolina Help Program has been denied. Mr. James stated I was denied because I had the income to pay my debts. I find this very difficult to understand because I have no income other than weekly unemployment assistance in the amount of $276.00. On July 7, 2015 I became unemployed through no fault of my own. I applied for and began receiving unemployment insurance in the amount of $276.00 a week. Although I have been aggressive in seeking work to date I have not been able to find suitable employment. In addition to myself I have a special needs adult child that I am responsible for. One month after losing my job I was directed to SC Help program by a friend. I took the pre qualifying quiz to determine that I might be eligible. I applied and have provided all documentation as requested. Per your own website: "SC Help is intended to help borrowers who are facing first mortgage delinquency or possible foreclosure due to circumstances beyond their control like unemployment, underemployment or significant reduction in self- employment pay." ELGIBILITY GUIDELINES INCLUDE: NO HOUSEHOLD INCOME LIMIT THE PROPERTY MUST BE AN OWNER-OCCUPIED PRIMARY RESIDENCE APPLICANTS DO NOT HAVE TO BE DELIQUENT Becoming unemployed has been the most stressful time I have ever experienced. It is made more frightening by the fact that I am now unable to meet my mortgage obligations. The program implies that I would meet the need requirements. Without this help I feel I am in grave danger of losing my home. I respectfully ask that you reconsider my application. Without your assistance I am afraid I am in danger of losing my home. Sincerely Vernon E Birt Jr.
