(Columbia-AP) Oct. 7, 2005 - Gov. Mark Sanford has
endorsed Karen Floyd of Spartanburg as the next
superintendent of education.
Floyd is running as a Republican in the June GOP
primary. She faces one announced opponent, Charleston
real estate agent Elizabeth Moffly.
Sanford says Floyd's experience as a mother, public
servant and business woman makes her the right candidate
for the job.
When she announced her candidacy in April, Floyd said
she supported school choice. She did not say at the time
whether she supported legislation backed by Sanford that
would give tax credits to parents whose children attend
private schools or are home schooled.
Democratic state Education Superintendent Inez
Tenenbaum is not seeking another term.
No Democrats have announced a bid for the post.
