Magistrate resigns to join Peeler's office

Cherokee County Bureau

Cherokee County Chief Magistrate Scott Ramsey has accepted a position as the director of research for the medical affairs committee in Sen. Harvey Peeler's office.
Peeler chairs the committee.
Ramsey will assume the position immediately in Columbia.
"Scott will certainly be missed in the Magistrate's Office, but will also be a welcomed asset to the medical affairs committee," Peeler said in a news release.
Peeler said he would recommend full-time Magistrate Bart Howell for the chief magistrate post.
Peeler will also recommend part-time Magistrate Frank Crocker be elevated to a full-time magistrate.
Gaffney native Mike Clary, an investigator in Duke Power's corporate security department, will assume a part-time magistrate post.
Peeler will recommend that Ramsey's wife, Tressa, fill a part-time magistrate position that was vacated in May 1999.
"The workload of the Cherokee County Magistrate's Office has continued to increase since the position was left vacant, and I feel that in order to better serve the citizens of Cherokee County, it is time to fill the position," Peeler said.
Tressa Ramsey has been a schoolteacher in the Cherokee County School district for nine years.
