In that discussion a recurring issue was the way the recent crisis affected our friends and families there NOT from any natural standpoint but from the Government response to that crisis. Several folks were employed at businesses and one actually was a small business owner who suffered because the roads to their businesses were blocked by the State and they could not work.In each they said the response was made without any regard to businesses particularly those selling items badly needed by residents wanting to set about repairing their own homes immediately, reducing their losses ,or feeding their families. There are no Commerce/ business people on any of your response teams with an eye to keeping roads open to facilitate businesses serving people in dire need. This is an aspect covered by only the best emergency management teams. We in SC are not like the Katrina folks willing to sit on a bridge and wait for government help however long it takes.Simply blocking access to wide areas is something from the 50's. This was a repeated theme among our discussion of complaints by families. Someone asked me if a families power was out and they were without water, went to a store in violation of a curfew they did not know existed ,would they be arrested? I would guess yes, as stupid as that sounds. With regards J.T.Foster.
