I would like to address sevaral issues involving SC state CDV laws, punishments, victim treatment from law informent and standards of places in this community that represent themselves as "help for victims". I have and I am currently in an abusive relationship fearing for my life everyday, knowing that if I leave him he will hunt me down and kill me might I add that I have no safe place to go. I have contacted every so called abuse assistance faciltly I know of and excuse after excuse of them not being able to help me is all I have gotten. My biggest concern regarding charging him with CDV is that the punishment is less then that of someone caught speeding, the CDV department for the city of Columbia has less then successful in prosecuting and protecting. Not only des it take forever to get to court if the abuser is charged it's a mer slap on the wrist, this also infuriates the abuser and usually ends in death of the victim. Something has to change like most woman myself included we don't leave our abuser because of fear of death and financial reasons. EXPESUALLY VICTIMS WITH CHILDREN! We need your help to change these laws. Are you aware that in this state no matter how long you have been separated from your abuser he can come attack u 10 years after leaving him and it falls under aCDV charge. That is assault not CDV and in this state we can't divorce on grounds of abuse nor can we sue or abuser. I think we need to catch up on this. And I know our CDV rates will drop drastically. Nikki you of done so much good for us please don't let this go unnoticed. Oh ya and do u think u can get the law taken out that books, that your allowed to beat your wife on the state house steps on Sunday after church with a stick no thicker then your thumb. I think us as women could live without such an insult and hold backs. Thank you for your time Let's STOP ABUSE IN SOUTH CAROLINA. My best regards, Marjoe Mestel
