COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Two new members have been appointed to the Education Oversight Committee.

Dennis Drew, president of The Sunshine House childcare business, was appointed by Gov. Mark Sanford to replace Bill Gummerson.

Sanford asked Gummerson to resign, said Sanford's spokesman Will Folks. Gummerson had served on the EOC since it was formed in 1998 to oversee the implementation of the state's Education Accountability Act. The group is made up of 18 educators, business people and elected officials.

George Martin, assistant principal at Belton-Honea Path High School, also was given an interim appointment to fill in for Wallace Hall, who is on active duty with the South Carolina Army National Guard.
