People will think how they want to, but that does not make them right. If some people see a flag, even the u.s. flag, as racist does that make the stars and stripes a racist flag? Sure it does, in your view. So, we let modern dissidents determine who were heroes and who were war criminals? [Yes, I realize you will not give any credence to this information. But here it is, anyway.] If that be so, would you think a war criminal could be someone who raped, pillaged, killed and burned civilian homes and people like, for example, the Nazis in Russia and the Russians in Germany? If you think that, I agree with you. What about William Tecumseh Sherman who permitted his troops (if not actively encouraging them) to commit those crimes IN SOUTH CAROLINA. Which flag did he display: the U.S. flag. Who behaved worse: the Confederates or the Yankees? If you guessed it was the Southern army that committed more war crimes, you would be as wrong about that as you are about the Confederate Flag. My own ancestors were honorable men, including a physician who helped anyone needing medical care, friend, foe or civilian. He fought under the flag you want to remove. Who made you God? Who authorized you to judge the valiant, self-sacrificing men, black and white alike, who served under that wonderful flag of Saint Andrew's Cross. Get your history right, Gov, and then get your decisions right. You are so wrong it is pitiful. How could a person knowing as little history as you know make such a politically "correct", morally and religiously wrong JUDGMENT about so many heroes as you are now doing due to your desire to ingratiate yourself to hate-mongers by calling heroes racists and racists heroes. I hope God gets your attention. Mark R. Simmons, LTC, USAR (R).
