But I read with great dismay that you have vetoed the moped bill by saying you think it's government overreach. Mopeds may or may not be a big deal in Columbia where you live and work, but Greg Hembree and I live in areas where they are a HUGE problem. I am not an expert on all of what is included in the bill, but vetoing it over safety vests and helmets for under 21 (as the press reports) is just silly. People come out to Myrtle Beach and rent these things, with no 2-wheel experience or special 2-wheel endorsements for their licenses and zip all over the place. And in the dark, they're impossible to see. All of the folks who have had their licenses taken away for DUI are out there zipping around, too--in many instances DUI. An erratic moped driver caused an accident where I broke my neck last October. I had 2 painful surgeries in February and only by the grace of God am I walking and talking today. He stopped, reviewed the situation, then left the scene--probably in possession of drugs or under the influence of them. He was never found. He couldn't be tracked because there was no plate except for "MOPED". Even if found, he wouldn't have been required to have insurance anyway. THIS BILL IS NEEDED. Please reconsider the recommendations of your state government. Signed, LUGENE@LUGENESLAW.ORG
