Just-released data from Census 2000 said 45,116 Hispanics are among the 1.9 million people in South Carolina’s work force.

Top jobs held by Hispanics

Top jobs for Hispanic workers, and annual average pay for all workers

• Construction laborers: 2,080 — $20,480

• Groundskeepers: 1,950 — $19,100

• Carpenters: 1,650 — $31,000

• Agriculture workers: 1,500 — $18, 340

• Painters: 1,480 — $25,700

• Cooks: 1,185 — $15,800
