Though I am not a citizen of the great state of South Carolina, I ask you to consider a compromise that honors the heritage of South Carolina, i.e., replacing the Confederate Battle Standard with the Gadsden Flag, linked in history to the Continental Colonel from South Carolina, Christopher Gadsden. Hailing from a time that is not forged in the war among the several states but from our common struggle for freedom from the British imperium, it honors both the noble history of South Carolina and the history of colonial America in its noble struggle for independence from Great Britain.
