Harvin's Widow to Run for
Husband's Seat |
MANNING - The widow of state Representative
Alex Harvin says one of her husband's wishes was that she carry
on for him after he was gone.
Alex Harvin was the
longest-serving active member of the House when the Summerton
Democrat died at a Charleston hospital earlier this month following
a long illness.
Cathy Harvin says as her husband's illness
progressed, he asked that she continue his work in the
Statehouse.
Cathy Harvin filed for the January third
Democratic primary. Alex Harvin's former opponent, Mitchell Ellerby,
also filed to run.
Ellerby challenged Alex Harvin
unsuccessfully in the 2004 Democratic Primary. He says he has
planned for next year's race since losing a year ago. |
