The S.C. Department of Natural Resources will convene the state Drought Response Committee at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27 in Room 335 (board room) of the Rembert Dennis Building at 1000 Assembly St. in Columbia.
State agency representatives on the State Drought Response Committee last met April 27 and decided to delay making any drought declaration, but to increase the monitoring of drought indices and to reconsider the possibility of drought declaration in several weeks if no significant rains had begun.
Should a drought declaration need to be made, an incipient drought declaration is the first level of drought followed by moderate, severe, and extreme. During incipient drought, the DNR activates the Drought Information Center, increases monitoring and notification of the drought status.
