Charleston, Horry, and Spartanburg Areas to be in the World Spotlight!
(Chicago)---Brand new South Carolina grown and or processed foodstuffs
will be in the spotlight at the NASDA U.S. Food Export Showcase, May 7-9
in McCormick Place, Chicago.
Several companies from Charleston, Horry and Spartanburg counties will
present their products to the more than 30,000 buyers from across the globe
that are expected to attend the show.
The all-new designer food, Berry-Bites, made by NutriSolutions in Conway,
is sure to be an attention-getter this year. The Bites, made from raspberries,
have a wonderful tart taste and are a very healthy snack. Red raspberries
are very high in ellagic acid, which is easily absorbed by the body and
has been clinically shown to prevent certain cancers, according to the
Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina. In
addition, one of our SC tobacco farmers is at the heart of the Berry-Bites
company---another way that farmers are finding new avenues of profit for
themselves. These important findings are sure to put Berry-Bites
on the top of the list for food buyers from all over the world.
In addition to the sassy flavor of Berry-Bites, Harrell Farms of Meggett
and International Industries Corp. of Spartanburg will feature the sweet
side of the spectrum. Harrell Farms produces gourmet pecans and chocolate-coated
nuts and International Industries will feature their various canister snacks,
cookies and sandwich cakes.
All of the products of these three local companies are sure to get
attention at the Showcase providing an exciting opportunity for them
to present and sell their South Carolina products to the world—literally.
The NASDA U.S. Food Export Showcase is organized by the National Association
of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA), along with USDA’s Foreign
Agricultural Service. The Showcase, held in conjunction with the Food Marketing
Institute’s International Supermarket Industry Convention & Education
Expo, features products from about 350 food manufacturers and helps these
manufacturers sell their products to supermarkets, restaurants, convenience
stores, and wholesalers across North America and overseas. In addition,
the Showcase gives consumers an interesting glimpse at new products on
the market through the eyes of the media.
The annual U.S. Food Export Showcase is covered by hundreds of media
representatives each year, including all of the major news networks and
print media. News, photos, and video releases will be compiled daily, and
written releases and pictures can also be downloaded from www.nasda.org.
You can receive these timely news releases and/or VNRs of raw footage
or special interviews of the SC company representatives and their products
directly from the show in Chicago. But, you must let us know by Monday,
