Lt. Governor Peeler unveils ‘Choose Life’ License Plates

Revenue generated will go directly to assist South Carolina Crisis Pregnancy Centers

Columbia—This morning, Lt. Governor Bob Peeler was joined by several key lawmakers who will introduce new pro-family legislation later today in the General Assembly.  The legislation will allow all South Carolina drivers the opportunity to ‘Choose Life’ when they choose license plates for their cars and trucks. The revenue generated will go to Crisis Pregnancy Centers throughout the State.

Lt. Governor Peeler said, “By voluntarily choosing these new license plates, South Carolinians will be choosing to support the mission of these compassionate crisis pregnancy centers.  While this bill will have no fiscal impact to state government, the impact on South Carolina families will undoubtedly last “lifetimes”...and that’s why we’re here today.”

The bill is co-sponsored in the State House by Representatives Gloria Haskins, Greg Delleney, Chip Huggins, Dwight Loftis, Gary Simrill, and Glenn Hamilton.  In the Senate, co-sponsors include Senators Mike Fair, Larry Grooms, Hugh Leatherman, Danny Verdin, Joe Wilson, and David Thomas.

“This is a positive pro-family idea whose time has come,” said Representative Haskins.

Senator Mike Fair added, “While most of these women go through the fear and trauma of unplanned pregnancies, these crisis pregnancy centers offer counseling and compassion.  Following the leadership of Lt. Governor Peeler, we can begin to help these well deserving centers all over our state.”

In Florida, ‘Choose Life’ license plates are one of the fastest selling specialty license plates in the state.  Many other states are currently considering legislation to make these plates available including California, Louisiana, Texas and North Carolina.

Peeler continued, “This will send a positive message that South Carolina is a place where life is valued…and a state where our values are not only respected, but reflected in our government….”
