My husband and I were discussing that the children in todays time need to have more requirements and punishments. I think if a student is misbehaving in class and bullying, they should have to do community service in that area to educate them on the life of the victim or at least do a report about it and present it before their class. If they are put on the spot maybe they will think the next time and stop others from doing it. What happened to having to be the dunce in front of the classroom? at least it worked. and if they had consequences that didn't require corporal punishment then they may not feel they had the freedom to be so unruly. For a license and to graduate, they should be required to assist in the clean up of a fatal wreck and do a report on driver safety. and They all should be required to do a day of Community service whether in a Nursing Home, Fire Department, Special Needs Childrens Home, Orphanage, Elderly Home repair, Homeless Village, Mental health Facility for children, Hospital Volunteer, Meals On Wheels. There are tons of needs that may introduce these students to see the lives of others and give them a desire to want to do something positive in their future while assisting our community needs. The ones with attitudes should be assigned to work in a correction facility preparing things or cleaning like our police station, Fire Dept, and Rehabs for the youth. I remember being in the big Sister program when I was little. My big Sister was my greatest memory and she needed me to need her as much as I needed her. We need to bring back more options for the youth and give them ways and options to do something more positive with themselves instead of death. The ones in trouble seem to have bad home situtations and are acting out to get the attention the parents aren't giving but with no resources handy, this will only get worse. We went from love and God in the schools to Security gaurds and Weapons. These students know they have no repercussion and if its a simple project on their behavior to a required credit maybe we can make some changes. If Parents can change us from praying in schools then we should be able to change how a student looks at life. Thanks so much and together we can make it happen.
