House overrides veto on tax credits bill

The House overrode Gov. Mark Sanford's veto on a
bill intended to spur job growth in Orangeburg
County.
The House voted 83-16 to override the
veto.
Sanford said the legislation unfairly carved out
tax credit breaks for Orangeburg County. The legislation
increases the job tax credit available in the county to $8,000
a job instead of the $3,500 credit it qualifies for now.
Sanford said that was unfair to other underdeveloped
counties.
Orangeburg County posted an unemployment rate
of 8.1 percent in April, compared to the statewide jobless
rate of 6.6 percent. Marion County had the highest
unemployment last month, at 12.2 percent.
