Less litter Letters to this page have long complained about the clutter of litter along South Carolina's roads, some suggesting that it reflects a general lack of pride in the state. Maybe matters are improving. Palmetto Pride, a statewide anti-littering group, reports that the volume of trash picked up along the roadsides has declined sharply in the last two years. The group attributes the improvement to increased public awareness, sparked by a public service campaign and better enforcement of litter laws. The numbers say something is working. It should encourage the campaign to carry on, as well as continued self-restraint from the motoring public.
