Ninety Six High School holds first fishing tourney
Cooler temperatures were on tap for the first tournament of the inaugural season of the Ninety Six High School bass fishing club on Dec. 10, but that didn't chill the spirits of the anglers on Lake Greenwood.
Eleven Wildcat anglers participated and the top three finishers were: 1st - Trenton Kelley - 8.29 pounds; 2nd - Bradley Weighington -3.45 pounds and 3rd - Justin Montgomery - 2.87 pounds. The Big Fish Award went to Trenton Kelley with a weight of 2.49 pounds.
The Ninety Six bass fishing club is expected to announce its spring schedule soon and is coached by Jeff Rodgers and David Miller. The Wildcats especially thank Elite Angler Davey Hite and Dixie High School's fishing coach Eddy Stone for their guidance and expertise.
Interested in forming a bass fishing club at your school? All you need to do is get a minimum of six students (within the 11-18 year old range) with dues paid and you can have a Youth Bass Fishing Club. You'll also need an adult at your school to help lead the club, provide advice and help arrange at least two club tournaments, fundraisers, speakers and other learning sessions pertaining to fishing for club meetings. The Youth Bass Fishing Clubs is a product of a partnership between the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and The Bass Federation of South Carolina with help and support from parents, teachers, school districts, local bait & tackle shops, community partners and Pure Fishing.
