Dear Governor,
My sympathy and prayers go out to you and your state as you deal with the violence that has happened. I want to speak out about the bringing down of the battle flag. I don't understand why you have to give in and bring it down instead of making a statement about what it really means. This would be the perfect time to educate about the war and the flag instead of lowering it. I'm sure you have studied the accurate history and not the lies that are being taught in school about the main reasons for the Civil War and Abe Lincoln's true stance on blacks. There is much to be set straight and I am very upset about how the flag get's attacked every time there is a racially motivated event. The white supremacists and KKK have abused what the flag is about therefore causing the beliefs against it. Why can't you inform and teach the public instead of giving in? The KKK fly the American flag as well, and always have. Why does it not receive negativity? The original 13 colonies were slave states. As for the Civil War, Lincoln did not free slaves in States that were not in rebellion against the north. He even offered the south to be able to keep their slaves if they would return to the union. This proves the war was not about slavery. It was a war about unfair taxation. My great great grandfather fought for the confederacy and I am very proud of that fact. I am just sad that the wrong side won. Please put the flag back up and make a statement about the truth of the flag and the war. Strike out against the KKK and there abuse of the flag.
