Suit claims SCE&G overcharged 5,000

Attorney General Henry McMaster has filed a lawsuit against South Carolina Electric & Gas, claiming the company overcharged at least 5,000 customers who lived outside city limits.The suit filed Wednesday in Richland County Circuit Court states the company "willfully" overcharged people who live outside the city by collecting a franchise fee.Many SCE&G customers who live within city limits pay a franchise that amounts to about 3 percent of their monthly bill.
