THE STEERING COMMITTEE



A committee named by the Central Carolina Community Foundation will guide the sale and redevelopment of the former State Hospital property on Bull Street. The members are:

Charles T. Cole Jr., chairman. Former president and CEO of Wachovia bank of South Carolina, he is the president of the foundation. Cole headed the site committee for the Colonial Center and Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center and is a member of the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism.

Joe E. Taylor. Owner of Southland Log Homes and a foundation board member. On the executive committee of Carolina National Bank. Board member of Columbia Museum of Art and other nonprofits. Appointed by Cole.

Kester Freeman. CEO of Palmetto Health hospital system. Chairman of the City Center Partnership, downtown’s business improvement district. Chairman of the board of the United Way of the Midlands. Appointed by Cole.

Lynette Allston. Cottontown resident and former small business owner. A former member of the foundation board. Appointed by Cole.

Jasper Salmond. Chairman of the Richland 1 School Board and a former vice president of Wilbur Smith Associates. Appointed by Cole.

Charles Small. Chairman of the board of the State Housing, Finance and Development Authority. Owner of Diversified Development, a Columbia real estate firm. Appointed by Gov. Mark Sanford.

Charles Austin. Columbia’s city manager. Appointed by Mayor Bob Coble.
