Both my husband and I work for the state, my husband has worked there for ten years, I've worked here for three years. We were always told that the benefits were so good that it made up for the lack of salary- but I can tell you that state health benefits are woefully inadequate. Specifically no preventative care is covered so anytime I have a annual visit with my doctor, or my child does, it isn't covered. I currently work two jobs, to make up the difference in salary from when I was in the private sector. Most of the employees at my agency work two, if not more, jobs to make ends meet. The study commissioned last year found that state salaries were low for the regional average, and that the benefits were not comparable in the region either. It is long overdue. Thanks for your consideration.
