GOVERNOR’S HIT LIST



Gov. Mark Sanford’s budget proposal would eliminate funding for 67 state programs. Here are a few and the amount the governor hopes to save:

• Hunting Island beach restoration — $5 million

• State funeral caisson — $99,000

• The H.L. Hunley submarine commission — $199,659

• The Forestry Commission’s timber theft program — $170,000

• Board of Pyrotechnic Safety — $35,000

• Professor of the Year — $14,850

• Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s Canadian Day — $85,000

• S.C. State University’s Youth and Family Development — $526,600

• Executive education training — $382,900

• Clemson University’s public gardening program — $308,000
