Vollman 7523 Tiki Drive Cincinnati, Ohio 45243 The Honorable Nikki R. Haley Office of the Governor 1205 Pendleton Street Columbia, South Carolina 29201 Ref:5102P0336549 Dear Ms. Haley, On Saturday, June 18 th, I was pulled over by one of your Patrolman and given a ticket for a speeding infraction, I have been coming to Myrtle Beach with my family the last 37 years. That said, I believe unsuspecting tourists all the natural prey for speed traps not enforcement(documented all over the internet) for their lack of understanding how the speed changes frequently, within 30 yards of where I was pulled over the speed limit was back at 60 mph. Now, the State of South Carolina, has derived thousands of dollars from me because I have patronized your State. Further, I have copied the South Carolina Department of Public Safety for the amount of tickets written that date by the officer named in this letter(Col VR Hardin 9033-5717). Further, I would like the tickets broken out according to in state versus out of state violators(i.e.) 1024 South Main Rt76 Street near State Highway Rt76 and Metal Marion, South Carolina Wife and I were traveling east on Rt76 towards Marion and missed the turn south on to RT576. We were followed in another car by daughter (driver), son-in-law and their 18 month old son. We drove a few blocks looking for a good place to turn around. We pulled into a small parking lot to turn around. Traffic was zipping by us pretty fast so it was a little hard to pull out. It was about 2:20pm on a Saturday. Daughter was unable to pull out right behind us so we got a little bit ahead of her. We drove for several blocks and could see daughter comming up behind us. We went thru an intersection controlled by a traffic light. Daughter sped up for a very short distance as the signal was changing so as not to loose us. Next thing we know is daughter is calling us to say she was stopped by a cop for speeding. She was ticketed for doing 52 in a 35. Fine is $180. None of us know where the cop was hidding. It was very obvious to us that he was looking for tourists. He could have stopped half of the cars on that road for speeding. Just in case anyone from Marion city government reads this; you need to mark the right turn from east bound 76 to south bound 576 better. The sign is on the SE corner of the intersection and partially obscured which means you are right on to of the sign before you see it. Finally, is it me or does $180 seem high? Just as it goes to 35 the road curves slightly to the right. The city radar cop sits on the left, which is out of your line of sight until you make the curve, then he's got ya. Since economic development in Marion county is difficult I suspect that traffic (speeding) fines make up a substantial portion of this city's income. Certainly, all states are feeling the financial pinch and the blog would definitely hurt the tourists business. Please don't tell me to take it to court, I have many attorney families member and I understand there is no due process but conviction with additional court fines.Thank you for your consideration. By the way I have not had a citation in 25 years! Now, being a financial person, I reduced tipping at your state's resturants from 20% to 10% saving $ 50.00 hurting South Carolina workers and did not spend another $ 1000.00 8 % sales tax or $ 80.00, therefore the state and the people who depend on tourists such as myself were the losers!!! Sincerely, Thomas C.Vollman copy: South Carolina Department of Public Safety
