Did North Korea launch a nuclear missile against Columbia killing millions with radioactive fallout approaching Charleston? That would be a different story - then I would understand an immediate state of civil emergency. We don't have a country anymore - it's LONG gone and controlled by elite liberals (Morgans, Rockefellers, Rothchilds, George Soros) that enforce their sick communist agenda using the US police. We all know this! It has nothing to do with safety - it's ALL about control. If Americans don't wake up right now, we will end up like East Germany under the communists in the 70's. They'll have the secret police arrest you just for speaking out against the government. My mom lived there as a child. This was NO big deal to me. A cat 2 that was weakening toward a cat 1? I've seen much worse. As an experienced storm chaser, (now retired) I've seen much worse than this when Hugo arrived AND we didn't need any lock-downs 2 days before it got here whatsoever! I went to the beach 9 hours before Hugo arrived and we didn't need cops telling YOU to go home! Now we have a weakening cat 2 approaching and we become paranoid sheep and shut down travel days before on I-26 for no imminent reason. I couldn't believe this non-sense last Wednesday. My friend Keith is sick of cops and he had allot of things to do in his business further down the coast. As citizens we need to get armed and protect ourselves against them. They ARE the maniacs! I hope the militia takes over and overthrows this horrible government! And soon! Nothing much happened in my neighborhood. (as I expected) Just some twigs and branches down. As expected from a storm chasing video, Cocoa Beach,FL only had winds about 55 sustained and higher gusts. The center was only 20 miles east of there! When looking at past history before it gets here, it will give people a much better understanding of what to expect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuvf3A5cLe4&index=13&list=UUWAN-rRJFLosqgiiIFVpkEQ At that time, the NHC advertised winds of 120mph - it was not even close to that, according to actual obs! They are referring to the "max" winds NE of the center above the ocean at higher altitudes where the plane is sampling data from the storm. These winds do not represent the entire wind field around the entire eyewall - and are likely much weaker. The system was on a weakening trend as it approached (due to shear and dry air wrapping around the center)- which means the max advertised winds from the NHC (supposedly 100mph at CHS) were likely going be much less by the time it reaches the target. I was at a secure parking lot in N CHS the night of the storm and it wasn't all that bad. (all you have to do is make sure you're not near rivers or downwind of trees and power lines). Now we did experience some strong winds behind the system, but not to THAT extent. Flooding rain is to be expected, of course, along with some tidal surges along the coast (and river flooding) - but areas further inland will be impacted far less (as to advertised sustained winds). So knowing this, there was no reason to close the interstates left or right from my location 2 days before the storm. Many of us knew the system was expected to weaken (according to the NHC meteorological discussion) long before it arrived here. If this had been a strengthening system (such as Hugo) before reaching this area, THAT would be a different story. That appears less likely in future due to a colder atmosphere. Ken 216.186.137.217
