Agritourism Workshop scheduled
JOHNS ISLAND---Farmers and landowners looking for new ways to make additional income are invited to attend an Agricultural Tourism Workshop to be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2002, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Berkeley Electric Cooperative Building on Johns Island near Charleston.
Agritourism is providing customers a pleasant, interesting and unique experience on the farm or forestland while increasing revenue for farmers and landowners. As the state becomes more urban, families are looking for activities that bring them back to nature. Picnic areas, pumpkin patches, hayrides, cornfield mazes, u-pick farms and horse riding trails are some of the proven agritourism activities that draw people outdoors and to the farm. Agritourism ventures reduce the risk of relying solely on traditional agricultural markets.
Topics for the workshop will include: How to get started in Agritourism, Successful SC Agritourism Projects, Funding and Insurance, and What is Agritourism.
Deadline for registration is Thursday, October 10th. To register for the Agritourism Workshop, call the Charleston County Clemson Extension Office at 843-722-5940.
