Hello, dear governor!
My name is Dmitry. I was born and raised in Russia. I lived in USA for over 10 years and am a citizen now..... I am EMT crew member with FC EMS. My girlfriend is EMT as well. We both have full time job and one part time job. I also go to school My girlfriend is currently pregnant with second child (first child was from her first marriage). Unfortunately. USA is the ONLY developed country in the whole world that does not provide paid maternity leave. My girlfriend will have to be out from work soon because being EMT is extremely stressful and physically demanding... I will have to pay all bills in the house. And that's is okay, I am blessed to have great job.
Some people are not that lucky. I know a lots of young families who are struggling during maternity leave and pregnancy. Hard working Americans make too much money to get governmental benefits and do not make enough to simply pay their bills. A lots of people I know had to use their earned vocation and sick hours just to be able to pay bills. Or even sell their belongings.
Let's make South Carolina progressive state, governor. Please, provide some assistance to mothers on maternity leave. Criteria could be for example... If mother worked throughout most of her pregnancy on her full time job - she deserves some assistance.
