The Honorable Nikki R. Haley
Governor of the Office of the Governor
1205 Pendleton Street
Office of the Governor
Columbia, SC 29201

Dear Governor Haley,

Thousands of families in our state including mine have never been able to a= dequately save for the futures of our children with disabilities. All of th= at changed late last year when the President and Congress enacted the ABLE = Act which amended the Section 529 college savings program to start allowing disability-related accounts.

I am asking as your constituent that you please ensure our state's Section = 529 program now incorporates that change so that I can start saving for my = child's disability needs.

Under current law, if we save more than $2,000 for our child's future, elig= ibility is lost for Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and other = benefits. If my child gets a job and earns income, they would be penalized = for working by losing those benefits.

The ABLE Act allows families to help themselves. Please take the next step = for my family and the thousands of others in our state who raise children w= ith disabilities by incorporating ABLE into our state's Section 529 program= .

Thank you!

Sincerely,

KATHERINE TAYLOR
