TROPICAL STORM
GASTON LEAVES HIS MARK
Along the Grand Strand there
were some reports of trees and power lines down. An apartment
complex in Loris flooded. There were as many as 25 thousand
customers without power in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee during
Gaston. The biggest problem from the storm was felt in the Pee Dee,
particularly in Lake City where much of the towns streets and yards
were underwater by Sunday night. Lake City officials monitored rain
accumulations every hour along West and East Thomas Streets and
South Acline Streets. They say evacuations of those areas are
possible if the water starts flooding the homes there. In
Marlboro County, officials are concerned about an area in Wallace
near the Great Pee Dee River that is prone to flooding. In Dillon
County, Gaston left extensive flooding on West Hampton Street, First
Avenue, and US 301 North near Cleveland Street. In Darlington County
there is sporadic flooding throughout the county, and although it's
not a major concern, emergency officials want those living along
Black Creek to watch for flooding
there. | WPDE Home Page
