My daughter is a soldier on active duty. She has less than three months before she goes to the Middle East for an entire year. As a mother, it breaks my heart to know that she is so close but I am unable to see her because of this Read ID issue. I know there are many other parents and family members in similar situations - facing the real possibility of not seeing our children graduate from Basic Training or AIT through no fault of our own. As most SC citizens were unaware of this deadline and all the soldiers I spoke with were unaware of this, it seems only reasonable that we have enough time to get passports so we can see our sons and daughters that are protecting this fine country.
