SC Water Resources Workshop offers discussions on water-related issues

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District, will host a South Carolina Water Resources Workshop, “Working Together for the Public Interest,” on May 31 and June 1 in Columbia.

Registration is required and limited to 150 on the first day and 250 on the second day. There is no fee to attend. Visit www.sac.usace.army.mil/ to register.

The two-day workshop, being held at the Clarion Town House Hotel in Columbia, will focus on two distinct areas. The first day will feature programs and issues related to water resource needs. The second day will focus on federal and state regulatory requirements. South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Director John Frampton is one of the featured speakers for the workshop.

On the first day, water resource experts from across the state will talk about critical water issues facing South Carolina. The goal is threefold: 1) to provide information on federal and state programs available to assist local communities in solving water resource related problems; 2) to learn about challenges and potential solutions associated with these programs; and 3) to provide a forum to discuss the future of water resources in South Carolina.

The second day will focus on federal and state regulatory requirements for work in the waters and wetlands of South Carolina. The goal of the second day is help attendees become familiar with many aspects of working in and around wetlands, including wetlands identification, permit applications, and how to avoid violations.
