Watch out speeders.
A bill approved Thursday could let cities use cameras to catch people running red lights.
The bill was passed out of a Senate transportation subcommittee Thursday.
It would require cameras capture images of a vehicle's license plate and the red light.
Legislators wanted to make sure the technology is used to improve public safety and not just to raise money through traffic fines.
Howard Duvall of the Municipal Association of South Carolina says running red lights leads to about 880 fatalities a year.
The legislation now moves to the full Transportation Committee.
