Also, why were they not given more time to move. We are better than this and can certainly do better than was done with these folks. They seem to be good people trying to take care of God's creation so why can't we help them out and renew the lease, if not for ten more years then at least a year to give them ample time to find a place and to move the animals. This was handled very poorly! I expect more from my state! Please intervene and make this right. MESSAGE FROM KEEPER OF THE WILD: Keeper of the Wild is an organization for orphaned, injured and misplaced wildlife. Over the past 14 years we have taken in thousands of rescued wildlife. We are on call 24 hours a day, we have no payed salaries and function off of donations. Keeper of the Wild is made up of hard working volunteers who donate their time to care for our state's wildlife. Many times we pay for their care out of our own pockets. Spring brings in hundreds of orphans. Most are from mothers hit by cars or killed by human conflict. During this time we function off of a few hours of sleep while feeding orphans around the clock. We transport to and from our veterinarians, run rescues as well as handle hundreds of wildlife calls. For the past 10 years we leased an old Forestry Building owned by the state in St. George, SC. The building and property had not been in use for years. We leased it and made repairs the best we could to make it useable. We have just learned that our lease which is up in January will not be renewed by the state and we have 90 days to relocate. The state has other use for their property. We have wildlife that will need to make the move with us. We have indoor and outdoor pens, cages, medical supplies, freezers and 10 years worth of related equipment must be moved. At this time we have no where to go. We need a piece of property and a building that we can call home so we never have to move again. We never saw this coming, we didn't expect the state not to renew our lease. Keeper of the Wild and the wildlife needs your help. It will cost thousands to move and we have no idea of the cost to hopefully find a place we can call home so we never have to move again. There isn't a lot of time nor is there a lot of money to make this happen. Any amount will help and we desperately need it. It will be appreciated more than you know.. http://www.keeperofthewild.org Please share this with everyone you can..... we never saw this coming and not sure what we will do.
