What can be done to get more phiscicians in our local VA clinic to treat more veterans? We live in Darlington, SC and the local VA clinic is in Florence, SC. I had to take my husband to the Va hospital emergency room in Columbia yesterday for treatment. He needs to follow up with a primary physician through the VA which would be the local VA clinic. The Florence VA clinic tells us that they are not taking new VA patients. They do not have the doctors to see more patients. As many veterans we have in this state...it is ridiculous that they cannot get the proper treatment or they have to wait months and months and months on end or just go on their own to a non VA facility and then the VA will not approve it. I have delt with the VA for years being that my father was a veteran and he would suffer months in pain before he could get an appointment to see his primary va doctor (cause they were so swamped) or else travel all the way to Columbia and sit hours on end to be seen. He is now resting with the good Lord for almost two years now. So something needs to be done. SC needs more VA doctors to help these veterans get treatment in a timely manner. My husband is not one to run to the doctor unless it is something he can not handle at home or he can't take the pain anymore. But when he needs to be seen, he honestly needs to be seen...not wait months because the VA facility can't take the patient load. Is there anything you can do? Please help the SC veterans. Ps, we voted for you and support you in your endevors and appreciate all that you do.
