Brouse Retired N/A 235 Bamberg Drive Bluffton, SC 29910 Bellefonte@aol.com 843-706-7999 N/A GOVE You 64.203.204.14 Dear Governor Haley: First, some relevant information: 1) I am, and have been, one of your most ardent supporters.; 2) I appreciate the manner in which you are governing.; 3) I was elated with your response to the President's State of the Union Address.; 4) I'm a retired CEO of a large, insurance conglomerate.; 5) I've been a registered Republican since I've been old enough to vote (and I'll reach my 76th birthday in May). and (6) the purpose of this email is to, hopefully, provide you with something to think about. I don't know whether you've had an opportunity to read a recent piece by Peggy Noonan but it would be worth your while. Her article, in my humble opinion, lays out the reason Mr. Trump has seemingly captured "grass roots" support. In essence, much of the population is exasperated with the "establishment." I won't even try to enumerate all the ills that are befalling the Country but many of us watch with horror as our institutions, morals, status, etc., etc., continue to erode. Regrettably, both parties are to blame. However, I think the "Trump phenomena" underscores the extent to which many Americans are tired and, yes, angry with the establishment. Whether it's pork, mis-management or whatever, Americans are perplexed. We are so perplexed that, just maybe, we've become a little irrational, i.e., we don't care what the "guy" looks like as long as we think he can make substantive changes. The infatuation with Trump is one based on hope. It conjures up that old marketing notion that "in the factory "we" make cosmetics but at the counter, we sell hope!" So, then, what's the "bottom line?" For me, I want Governor Haley to continue to rise as an extremely capable politician and effective leader. However, I am concerned that the Governor's ability to achieve that goal is threatened if she is seen as a rigorous supporter of the establishment. Indeed, a "Catch 22." On one hand, the support of the Republican establishment is not something to be taken lightly. However, on the other hand, the public is looking for someone to change the direction this Country has been on for years and, in all likelihood, that change will only occur when some non-establishment figure takes charge. Hence, I hope that Governor Haley will think and act carefully and not create the impression that she, like so many others who have held out promise, is just one more member of the establishment resulting in a continuing decline in this Country's prestige around the world and it's robust capabilities. Thank you.
