Ridge Spring Creates Seasonal Town Farmers Market
RIDGE SPRING---To celebrate the 120th anniversary of the towns incorporation in 1882, the Ridge Spring Development Association is sponsoring a farmers market every Saturday, June 15 to September 15, 2002, in the Town Square.
Fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, plants, nuts, and much more from Ridge Spring and surrounding areas will be available.
The concept of a farmers market in the center of a town is a lesson to non-farmers in the importance of agriculture, especially to a town like Ridge Spring and to a state like South Carolina. Also, direct marketing of farm products not only helps farmers supplement their family income, but seasonal retail markets have proven to be successful in attracting visitors to rural areas. Direct markets and agritourism have a high impact on the local economy. The dollars from local products sold by local businessmen and women stay in the community. Ridge Spring Development Association members predict that their farmers market will encourage more people to come to the community to see what their little town has to offer.
Ridge Spring, a small town of about 2 square miles and just under 870 people, is located in Saluda County 48 miles west of the State Capitol of Columbia---as the crow flies---between Johnston and Batesburg along Highway 23 near the North Fork of the Edisto River.
For convenience, and fresh, local quality products at a reasonable price in a friendly atmosphere, stop by the Ridge Spring Farmers Market each Saturday through September 15th.
