Are you aware that Charleston School District is planning to send back nearly $10 million in federal funding that should be going to help teachers and kids? Charleston School District has been implementing a Teacher Incentive Fund grant for the past several years that has made a huge impact on teachers and students. During a meeting last week, the group voted to end the project early and return the Year 5 money to the U.S. Department of Education. That means that 10 million dollars in federal funding, that should be going to help South Carolina educators and students, will be returned because the group no longer wants the hassle of the grant. Our district already has less money than required to fully educate our students and train teachers so how can we give back millions of dollars when the funds are so desperately needed? Please look into this situation as soon as possible. The final decision is going to be voted on at the upcoming board meeting on February 22. Returning the money will negatively impact educators and could jeopardize future opportunities for Charleston and others in our state. We simply can't afford to send back funds that were provided to help our educators, because it's our students who will lose out in the long run. If there is anything you can do to save this grant, please try. We appreciate your commitment to helping kids in South Carolina succeed. Sincerely, Informed Neighbor 97.82.208.82
